Mibelle Biochemistry launches advanced calcium delivery system for skin care solutions

In the rapidly expanding market for barrier repair, hydration, and sensitive skincare, Mibelle positions EpiCalsome as a high-performance active that unlocks calcium’s full potential through innovative delivery technology.

USA – Mibelle Biochemistry has unveiled EpiCalsome, a breakthrough calcium delivery system that represents the evolving “skin-ification of actives” trend—where cosmetic ingredients increasingly target fundamental biological skin processes rather than surface-level concerns.

The new ingredient delivers calcium and essential electrolytes to strengthen the skin barrier while enhancing hydration and resilience for stressed, ageing, and sensitive skin types.

Calcium is a cornerstone of skin barrier function and epidermal renewal, according to Mibelle. A balanced calcium gradient is indispensable for keratinocyte differentiation, lipid organization, and maintaining overall skin homeostasis.

However, this natural equilibrium is frequently compromised by ageing processes, environmental stressors, and metabolic conditions, including diabetes. Such imbalances manifest as weakened barrier integrity, chronic dehydration, heightened sensitivity, and diminished skin recovery capacity.

This biological reality drives growing demand for advanced skincare solutions that go beyond superficial hydration to restore underlying physiological processes and support sustained skin health.

Unlike conventional calcium formulations, EpiCalsome employs proprietary patent-pending double-cone vector technology that encapsulates calcium ions within high-quality phospholipids.

This innovative delivery system enables efficient skin penetration and controlled release, replenishing calcium levels while restoring the physiological gradient essential for a robust, healthy skin barrier.

The technology addresses a critical limitation: research conducted in human reconstructed epidermis models demonstrated that neither calcium nor phospholipids (lecithin) alone could restore proper epidermal differentiation and barrier formation under low-calcium conditions.

Calcium chloride treatment actually further impaired epidermal structure, while phospholipids alone failed to rescue loricrin expression, a key protein essential for functional barrier formation.

Only the double-cone vector combination successfully restored a dense, fully stratified epidermis and significantly increased loricrin expression, highlighting the essential collaboration between calcium and phospholipids when delivered through the optimized vector structure.

Beyond calcium, EpiCalsome delivers magnesium, potassium, and sodium, electrolytes increasingly recognized as pivotal modern skincare ingredients.

These minerals boost hydration, fortify the skin barrier, and improve overall resilience by regulating moisture balance and supporting water transport within skin layers, resulting in smoother, plumper, healthier-looking complexions.

Electrolytes also amplify the performance of other active ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, peptides, and vitamins, making them highly effective in multifunctional formulations.

EpiCalsome has demonstrated enhanced expression of key barrier proteins and accelerated recovery following irritation, positioning it as particularly suitable for stressed, ageing, and sensitive skin, including skin affected by metabolic imbalances.
