Symrise actively involve suppliers, and strategy turns into measurable results in everyday operations.

SWITZERLAND – Symrise has earned CDP’s highest “A” rating in the Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA), placing the company among leaders in sustainable supplier engagement and demonstrating its ability to convert responsible sourcing into measurable customer value.
Across the value chain, Symrise increases transparency, delivers detailed data down to raw material origins, and helps customers make informed sourcing choices.
“CDP’s top ‘A’ rating confirms our holistic approach. We combine procurement and sustainability with a clear focus on impact across our value chain,” says Dr Isabella Tonaco, Chief Sustainability Officer at Symrise.
“We work closely with suppliers worldwide, embed climate criteria in sourcing decisions and create reliable transparency for our customers. This helps them better understand the carbon footprint of their products and the emissions they contain.”
Using suppliers as a lever for climate action, Symrise targets upstream emissions by engaging suppliers directly, enhancing transparency, setting shared climate targets, and driving operational improvements.
This strategy generates reliable ESG data, supports CO₂ reductions, and reinforces sustainable supply chains for customers, with Scope 3 programs and traceability initiatives playing key roles.
To record CO₂ data transparently at both product and company levels, Symrise has launched a digital data platform.
First showcased at the UN Climate Change Conference in November 2025 as the Houston project and developed with technology partner CO2 AI, the platform delivers real-time emissions analysis, highlights opportunities for reduction, and guides decisions to lower emissions across the value chain.
Symrise is also rolling out its Low Carbon Transition Plan, which has already yielded early results. Cross-functional work identified propylene glycol as a strategic raw material that, when produced using green energy, can enable lower-carbon production processes.
Through its “Essence of Carbon” initiative, Symrise fosters collaboration across value chain networks and advances decarbonization through innovation.
Backed by strategic partners, the program develops scalable solutions to accelerate climate action.
Looking ahead, Symrise plans to present a concrete roadmap for transforming sustainable raw material use by 2028 and to begin building a traceability agenda this year.
The company will prioritize deeper supplier engagement, measurable CO₂ reduction pathways, and the continued expansion of transparent, sustainable, and resilient supply chains.
Meanwhile, according to CDP’s latest analysis, companies have saved between USD 80 billion and USD 94 billion through emissions-reduction efforts since 2024, showing that climate action can also deliver major financial benefits.
