The laboratory belongs to BASF’s Hygiene Solutions business and was completed in less than a year.

INDIA – BASF has unveiled a new Global Performance Lab for diapers and superabsorbents in Mumbai, India, reinforcing its technical service capabilities for superabsorbent customers worldwide.
The facility will provide technical support, application expertise and customer-focused collaboration for the development of hygiene solutions.
It is part of BASF’s Innovation Campus Asia Pacific in Mumbai, the company’s second-largest research and development site in the Asia Pacific region.
The campus was established in 2017 under BASF Chemicals India Private Limited.
Situated within BASF’s global production network for superabsorbent polymers, the Mumbai Global Technical Service Lab will support customers in one of the world’s fastest-growing and most dynamic markets.
The facility covers approximately 200 square metres and is equipped to conduct more than 30 testing methods. Its capabilities include testing superabsorbent polymers, assessing diaper performance and carrying out product benchmarking.
The laboratory will support the joint development of innovative superabsorbent solutions for baby diapers, adult incontinence products and feminine hygiene products.
By combining material analysis with finished-product performance testing, BASF will be able to work more closely with customers to evaluate applications, identify improvement opportunities and develop products that respond to evolving consumer and market requirements.
Oliver Cullmann, BASF’s Vice President of Global Marketing and Strategy for the C3 Value Chain, said, ““The opening of the Mumbai Global SAP Performance Lab reflects our commitment to advancing performance, sustainability, and value for our customers all over the world.”
“By creating opportunities for closer collaboration and faster knowledge exchange, we can accelerate innovation and develop solutions that better address the needs of consumers and the market.”
According to BASF, the Mumbai SAP and Diaper Performance Labs represent more than an additional technical facility.
The company views the laboratories as an expression of its commitment to closer customer relationships, collaboration, speed and innovation.
Through stronger partnerships and more direct engagement with customers, the facility is expected to contribute to the development of future hygiene solutions.
The Mumbai laboratory will collaborate with BASF’s existing Global Product Development Lab for superabsorbents in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
This cooperation will connect the new facility’s regional technical support and application expertise with BASF’s broader global product development capabilities, helping the company provide more efficient and coordinated services to customers in different markets.
