Brenntag secures EcoVadis Gold for advancing sustainability practices
The rating score is up from 80 points, underscoring continued progress across its global sustainability management system.
GERMANY – Brenntag has achieved an EcoVadis Gold medal, achieving a record-high score of 84 out of 100 points in the latest assessment.
The Gold rating confirms Brenntag’s strong sustainability performance and positions the company among the top tier of more than 150,000 businesses assessed worldwide by EcoVadis across 250 industries and over 185 countries.

The EcoVadis methodology evaluates companies across four core themes: Environment; Labour and Human Rights; Ethics; and Sustainable Procurement. Brenntag’s improvement from 80 to 84 points signals advances not only in internal policies and measurable actions but also in documentation, certifications, and sustainability reporting that align with increasingly stringent global benchmarks.
This is particularly significant because EcoVadis medal thresholds have risen in recent years, with the Silver threshold increased from 68 to 72 points within a six-month window in 2025–2026, meaning higher scores are now required to maintain top-tier recognition.

Brenntag integrates sustainability into its operations by focusing on climate protection, resource efficiency, and responsible supply chains.
The company has committed to achieving net‑zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2045 and Scope 3 by 2050, with science‑based targets approved by the SBTi.
It already sources more than 87% of its electricity from renewable energy and has pledged significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by 2034.
Brenntag also advances the circular economy by expanding recycling and reuse partnerships and assessing the sustainability of its product portfolio.
On the social side, it emphasizes employee safety with a goal of lowering its injury rate, promotes diversity by targeting at least 30% female representation in management by 2030, and ensures salaries meet or exceed living wage standards globally.
Governance practices include strict ethical conduct training, ESG targets embedded into leadership KPIs, and comprehensive supplier risk management to uphold human rights and environmental standards.
Recognition such as EcoVadis Gold status, CDP leadership ratings, and German Sustainability Awards underscores Brenntag’s role as a leader in sustainable chemical distribution.
