dsm-firmenich expands operations in Indonesia with new office & manufacturing facility
INDONESIA – dsm‑firmenich has inaugurated a new, Green Building Council–certified office in Jakarta and completed a major capacity expansion at its Karawang manufacturing plant.
The company frames the Jakarta office and Karawang expansion as complementary moves designed to improve operational efficiency, strengthen cross‑business collaboration, and accelerate the development of solutions tailored to local consumer needs.
By bringing together teams from its three business units, Taste, Texture & Health; Perfumery & Beauty; and Health, Nutrition & Care, under one roof, dsm‑Firmenich aims to maximize collaboration and deliver more integrated offerings to customers in Indonesia and neighboring markets.
Timothy Elisafan, Head of Taste, Texture & Health, Asia Pacific, stated, “By expanding our innovation and manufacturing capabilities, we’re making it easier to co-create with customers, respond more quickly to rapidly changing consumer needs and bring new solutions to market faster.”
The Jakarta location serves as a multidisciplinary hub where R&D, applications, and customer teams can work side by side.
For the Perfumery & Beauty unit, the site features upgraded creation and application labs, immersive sensorium experiences, and dedicated air‑care testing facilities to assess fragrance performance, longevity, and product stability.
For Taste, Texture & Health, new food and beverage capabilities include a baked‑goods application lab and a pilot plant for dairy ultra‑high temperature (UHT) applications, backed by expertise in local sweet and savory flavor creation.
The office also provides dedicated co‑creation and innovation spaces to facilitate faster prototyping and more collaborative solution development with regional customers.
Alongside the office opening, dsm‑Firmenich has expanded its Karawang manufacturing facility to significantly increase production capacity and reinforce operational excellence and sustainable manufacturing.
The upgrade introduces new drying technology that can handle both high‑fat and high‑protein products for reaction and top‑note ingredients, as well as new capabilities for culinary blending to improve process efficiency.
Sustainability is a core element of the Karawang expansion: the site is powered by 100% green electricity, and the shift to electric heating is expected to cut CO₂ emissions by around 300 metric tons per year, while heat recovery measures are projected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 16%.
