Syensqo and Bota Biosciences partner to introduce bio-based scalp active

The launch signals a broader industry transformation through the convergence of AI, biotech, and sustainability.

BELGIUM – Syensqo and Bota Biosciences have reached a key partnership milestone with the launch of Re2 Coffea Arabica Peptide, an AI-designed, bio-sourced active ingredient revolutionizing scalp care formulations.

This innovation, derived from upcycled coffee grounds, addresses rising consumer demand for hydration, soothing, and holistic scalp wellness in personal care products.

The collaboration builds on a strategic alliance formed in 2025 between Syensqo, a leader in advanced materials, and Bota Biosciences, experts in AI-driven biotechnology.

Together, they leverage Syensqo’s Renewable Materials & Biotechnology platform and Bota’s Biofoundry to pioneer sustainable, high-performance hair and scalp care ingredients.

This debut demonstrates the partnership’s commercial maturity, blending Syensqo’s four decades of hair expertise with Bota’s protein engineering prowess.

Re2 Coffea Arabica Peptide originates from coffee proteins sourced sustainably from Pu’er, Yunnan plantations in China, processed via enzymatic digestion.

Bota’s AI platform screened these proteins to select optimal peptide sequences, yielding a multifunctional solution that enhances scalp hydration, softness, barrier function, and reduces transepidermal water loss, redness, and inflammation.

It reflects a shift in which hair care adopts skin care principles such as moisture retention and anti-inflammatory effects.

Vincent Miralles, Syensqo’s Global Hair Care Segment Leader, stated, “With Re2 Coffea Arabica Peptide, we continue to expand our hair actives portfolio in line with our strategy.”

“This sustainably sourced, AI-developed ingredient delivers multifunctional benefits for scalp health, enabling brands to address multiple consumer needs with a single solution.”

He added, “It sets a new benchmark for holistic scalp performance that remains unique in today’s market.”

It sets a new benchmark in a competitive market prioritizing scalp health amid growing multifunctional product trends.

Syensqo’s hair care portfolio includes XTRA Mild Shampoo, which is a sulfate‑free and biodegradable cleansing solution.

They also offer Naternal Care XTRA, a fenugreek‑based conditioning polymer designed for both performance and sustainability.

In addition, their lineup features plant‑based emollients and water‑soluble lipid concentrates that enhance softness and nourishment.

Finally, Syensqo provides natural amino acid gelling agents and biodegradable suspending agents to support eco‑friendly and stable formulations.
