Diamond Vogel celebrates 100 years of industry leadership

USA – Diamond Vogel, a family-owned coatings manufacturer based in Orange City, Iowa, marked its 100th anniversary in 2026, highlighting a century of family-led innovation in high-quality paints and coatings. 

The company has evolved from humble beginnings into the world’s 52nd-largest paint company, with annual revenues reaching USD 250 million. 

This milestone underscores a legacy of relentless progress, where initial production of just five gallons per batch scaled into advanced, nationwide manufacturing while preserving family oversight and core principles.

Jeff Powell, CEO of Diamond Vogel, stated, “One of the most important milestones was the 1967 purchase of Diamond Products Manufacturing in Marshalltown, Iowa, which helped shape the Diamond Vogel name.” 

“When you look at the company’s history, it really comes down to doing things the right way and building long-term relationships, not chasing short-term gains.”

Founded in 1926 as a small regional paint company by Andrew “Pop” Vogel, a Dutch immigrant, it evolved from a modest workshop into a national leader serving OEM, industrial, agricultural, and retail sectors while upholding values of quality, integrity, and customer relationships.

Andrew Vogel started the business in the early 20th century amid challenges, blending Dutch craftsmanship with American ingenuity to produce durable paints.

By the 1960s, expansions like acquiring Diamond Products Manufacturing and building a traditional Dutch-inspired mill solidified its manufacturing prowess.

 This family stewardship, now in its fourth generation, has sustained growth without compromising core principles.

Over the past 100 years, Diamond Vogel has expanded its portfolio to include brands such as Old Masters, Van Sickle, Peridium Powder Coatings, and Precision Colour. 

A significant portion of its operations centres on industrial liquid and powder coatings tailored for manufacturers in agriculture, construction, trailers, work trucks, and metal fabrication.

The firm also produces architectural coatings for professional contractors and independent retailers, as well as traffic and pavement-marking coatings for municipalities and contractors.

Additionally, Diamond Vogel holds firm footholds in aerosol and touch-up coatings, as well as toll and contract manufacturing services. 

Though it has stepped back from owning retail outlets, it continues to craft architectural coatings distributed through reliable partners, sharpening its focus on superior manufacturing while sustaining vital customer bases.

Investments in research, advanced manufacturing, and geographic reach turned a local operation into a multi-facility powerhouse, adapting to market shifts from architectural paints to sophisticated OEM systems. 

Key facilities, such as the 1967 mill and Media Vault for historical archives, preserve its innovative heritage.
