BASF introduces Micadelva for long-lasting citrus fragrances
Micadelva™ is described as a new orange-based platform for perfumers rather than a simple replacement for traditional orange materials.
GERMANY – BASF has launched Micadelva™, a new citrus fragrance ingredient positioned as a non-allergenic alternative to orange terpenes, and it is now available for orders and sample requests through BASF representatives.
The company says the ingredient delivers a fresher, longer-lasting citrus profile while fitting into its new Safe-by-Design innovation concept for future-proof fragrance development.
According to BASF, this ingredient gives a clean orange-peel character with subtle metallic and floral facets, supporting modern agrumic effects in reformulation work.
The ingredient is presented as a non-allergenic citrus option designed to broaden creative possibilities in fragrance design.
BASF ties the launch to its Safe-by-Design approach, which it says is based on principles from the EU Commission’s Safe and Sustainable by Design framework.
The company says this approach is meant to help fragrance developers work in a more complex regulatory environment while building a “Future-Proof-Palette” of ingredients.
It also says Micadelva™ contains 80% renewable carbon, is readily biodegradable, and is expected to have a low product carbon footprint in the A++ range, below 2 kg CO2e per kilogram.

Micadelva™ joins BASF’s Future-Proof-Palette alongside Dihydrorosan® and Velberry®.
The three ingredients cover floral/green, fruity/gourmand, and citrus scent spaces, and all three were developed under Safe-by-Design principles.
BASF screens for hazards such as mutagenicity, endocrine activity, and persistence early in development and advances only candidates with favourable profiles.
Micadelva™ was first introduced in Europe in May 2026 and will now be rolled out to other regions on a staggered basis.
