Scent of Africa launches new fragrances inspired by Akan Mythology

Scent of Africa’s own e-commerce platform is scheduled to launch later in 2026, making the full collection, including these two new releases, available for purchase globally on the brand’s website.

GHANA – Scent of Africa, a Ghanian fragrance house created by Ghandour Cosmetics Ltd., has expanded its award-winning Eternal Legends Collection with two new eaux de parfum inspired by Akan mythology.

The duo, named Anancy and Assaye, were first revealed at the Glitz Africa Women’s CEO Summit and Woman of the Year Honours 2026 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, then celebrated at a dedicated in‑store launch at Scentopia’s flagship in Accra Mall. Drawing on the stories of Asaase Yaa, the Earth goddess, and Anansi, the beloved trickster and storyteller of Ghanaian and Caribbean lore, the pair embody the interplay of nurture and creativity, roots and reinvention that sits at the centre of Scent of Africa’s creative vision.

Speaking at the event, Ayla Tissot, representing Scent of Africa, framed the brand’s mission as shifting the narrative from “inspiration” to origin: to recognise Africa not merely as a source but as the locus of excellence, and to honour land, people and legacy through scent.

Anancy, presented as the house’s masculine expression, is a spicy-woody composition that pays homage to the clever, charming storyteller of folklore.

It opens with bright Guatemalan cardamom and crisp Italian bergamot, evolves through a creamy heart of Moroccan iris, Australian sandalwood and musky ambrette, and rests on a deep base of Atlas cedar, Madagascan vetiver, Somali frankincense and vanilla.

Perfumer Dominique Preyssas describes Anancy as “a fragrance of majesty: powerful yet nuanced,” saying the blend of African raw materials with international influences aims to honour a hospitable and formidable land.

Assaye, the feminine counterpart, is conceived as a floral-oriental musk celebrating Asaase Yaa’s fertility and the sacred relationship between people and the earth.

It begins with a lively contrast of juicy apple and cardamom, blooms into Madagascan vanilla and gentle cinnamon with Moroccan orange blossom and Egyptian jasmine at its heart, and settles into a woody, sensual finish of Atlas cedar, Madagascan vetiver and a whisper of musk.

Perfumer Julien Rasquinet explains that the scent is meant to evoke the planet’s nurturing generosity, vanilla framed as a symbol of life and nature’s miracle, raised by human craft.

According to the brand, the collection is now available in Scentopia stores in Ghana and online through Scentopia Ghana, while the full Eternal Legends Collection is stocked in-store.

Meanwhile, late last year, Scent of Africa unveiled its “Eternal Legends” luxury fragrance collection in Nairobi, Kenya.

This collection is a sophisticated homage to African mythology and heritage, featuring perfumes inspired by mythical African legends.

The Eternal Legends collection, launched in Ghana in March 2022, includes masculine and feminine fragrance duos like Rakh and Nefee, crafted in Ghana by renowned international perfumers.
