Woodberry Packaging acquires Medica, Curtis, strengthening pharma, cosmetics carton printing
Combined with Woodberry’s existing Reelvision site, the acquisition gives the group three PS 9000-accredited carton sites in the UK, the pharmaceutical industry’s quality standard.
UK – Woodberry Packaging has acquired Medica Packaging and F.G. Curtis, two British carton manufacturers, in a deal that nearly doubles the group’s size and establishes a platform with three PS 9000-accredited pharmaceutical carton sites across the UK.
The transaction, announced on 6 July 2026, brings together Medica’s specialist position in pharmaceutical and healthcare cartons with Curtis’s recognised expertise in cosmetics and personal care packaging.
The enlarged group employs around 650 people across the UK and Ireland, with a combined turnover exceeding €120 million (USD 137 million).
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Three PS 9000-Accredited Carton Sites Strengthen Security of Supply
Combined with Woodberry’s existing Reelvision site, the acquisition gives the group three PS 9000-accredited carton sites in the UK, the pharmaceutical industry’s quality standard. Medica, based in Crewe, has a heritage dating back to 1922 and is the UK’s largest independent pharmaceutical carton converter.
Curtis, based in Redhill, Surrey, was founded in 1937 and was the first UK carton manufacturer to achieve B Corporation certification.
Peter Santo, CEO of Woodberry Packaging Group, stated that the acquisition is a major step in building the group across Europe as part of a clear long-term strategy of bringing high-quality businesses together.
He added that the company wants to learn from both teams, invest in their businesses, and create opportunities none of the companies could achieve alone.
Printing Precision, Sustainability Certification and Circular Economy Alignment Drive Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Packaging
Curtis brings World Land Trust carbon-balanced packaging certification, while Medica’s pharmaceutical printing heritage and PS 9000 accreditation ensure compliance for regulated markets.
Both businesses will continue to operate under their existing brands and management, ensuring continuity for customers and suppliers.
The acquisition supports the circular economy by consolidating supply chains and enabling more efficient production and distribution of sustainable carton packaging.
Gerard Harford, managing director at Medica, commented that becoming part of a larger group gives the company greater scale and investment to do more for its customers, while customers will work with the same team to the same standards.
James Williams, managing director at Curtis, added that joining the wider Woodberry group provides the scale and investment to build on its strong reputation while maintaining the service and standards customers value.
